Pitbull Terrier Breed Overview
The Pit Bull Terrier is a loyal, strong and energetic dog with muscular profile and short hair. The term Pit Bull is used in order to describe different types of breeds that are related and that have a similar physical appearance.

- Staffordshire Bull Terrier
- The American Bull Dog
- The American Staffordshire Terrier
- The Bull Terrier
- The American Pit Bull Terrier
They were bred by a combination of a variety of terriers and English Bulldogs. People first started to breed them in England, particularly in Birmingham for blood sports such as dog fighting and bull baiting until that became illegal. This particular breed is widely known for aggressive behaviour and has a poor reputation because of numerous attacks on a human.
PitBull Terrier can reach up to 48 cm in height and 34 kg in weight.
Their life expectancy is approximately 15 years.
Origins of Pit Bull Terrier
They were bred from numerous terrier breeds and English Bulldog. That is the main reason why they are confident, strong and energetic. They were bred in the 18th century in Birmingham, for purpose of bear and bull baiting, which was banned in the 19th century.
They were also widely used for dog fighting which was continued in the United Kingdom, because of gambling.
Pit Bull Terrier Temperament
They are very loyal, but in some cases, they are known for attacking strangers and animals in case that they are provoked. That is because they were used throughout the history as guard dogs and for them is common to attack other people.
