Frequently Asked Questions
I have never boarded my cat before. Will it like its stay?
Most cats are initially “out of sorts” when moved from their own familiar surroundings and need to claim new territory when moved. Knowing this we do all possible to settle new boarders into their new environment. Lots of talking and a friendly hand usually console newcomers who quickly get to trust their new surroundings and their surrogate parents.
We have differing reports of how cats react when taken home. Some chatter for hours others simply take to their usual routine and some appear angry. Often two cats from the same family boarded together bond more closely than they have in their own home.
I have three cats. Can they board together in the same area?
Yes. The enclosures are designed to house up to four cats from the same family.
Some catteries charge for exercise, brushing and giving medication. What are your charges?
There are no charges for any additional services we provide with the exception of washing your cat. We will even clip your cat’s nails at no cost.
What food do you provide as my cat is very fussy?
At booking time you advise us of your cat’s diet and we buy it in if we do not have it on hand. Everything from fresh butchers steak, fresh fish, prawns and all types of tinned and dry food are catered for.
Is there any food not covered in your costs?
Yes. We do not cater for specialised food products prescribed by veterinarians. If you are unsure about this please discuss with us.
My cat is sixteen years of age. Will he be able to stay with you?
Providing your best friend is in good health and we discuss all matters relating to the wellbeing of your cat whilst staying with us, it will not be a problem. It is preferable the board be discussed with your regular veterinarian for opinion and advice.
Why don’t you take cats under six months of age?
Young kittens can be extremely disruptive to other cats and over demanding. Naturally we would like to assist but our small operation is not suited for kittens.
Do you take un desexed cats?
No we don't.
I am going to miss my cat very much. Can I contact you to see how he is going?
We encourage owners to check in on how their pets are fairing. You can either phone or email. We can always send you a photo via email if you like.
My cat has lived inside all of its life. How will it cope in your cattery conditions?
A high percentage of our boarders come from units and homes in the city area where they have lived without either being able to venture out or kept inside for safety reasons.
Initially boarding is strange, unfamiliar and simply not home. It is our job to turn this into a positive experience for your cat. This is done with lots of talking and patting during the earlier stages of boarding together with the continuance of familiar food. As we only cater for a few cats our challenge is to get to know each one and work with any problems the cat may have.
We have seen some cats not adapt so well and it is usual in these circumstances to also note the cats have a history of hiding at home, being unfriendly towards strangers and extremely adverse to any change. These same cats have always adapted in their own way whilst boarding. Whilst they may not have been totally happy they have eaten well and been afforded our ongoing care and attention.
We have had many positive results from seemingly difficult boarders. This has and continues to be a true motivation for the care of all cats in our trust.
What care and attention can my cat expect?
Initial daily care starts at around 7am most days. Each cats home is inspected and cleaned from top to bottom. Bed liners are changed every two days. At this time your cat has its pat and chat session together with brushing and exercise out of the individual run area if it prefers. Cats are exercised individually.
Active playful cats love to chase and tear at our dusters and brushes. Bending over is always an invitation for a cat to end up on ones shoulders for a smooch. After this fresh litter, water and food is provided. Most cats settle and sleep for several hours after breakfast and playtime and are happy to laze on their shelved area with a watchful eye on neighbours or any activity taking place in the cattery area. For new boarders and those more timid or finding adjustment harder we work harder on their “happiness factor.”
During the day we monitor the cats and for those still in need of extra pats and exercise and cater to their whims.
Evening food is provided around 5 to 6pm. Most cats prefer to tuck in to their food but we always give attention first.
We live on site and do a final inspection of each cat prior to going to bed.
What are your opening and closing times?
We are open from 8am to 10am and 4pm to 6pm seven days. Closed on Christmas Day and Easter Friday.
Can you pick up and return my cat?
Yes our Pet Taxi can assist. We will do all possible to meet your time requirements but in the event times clash with clients collecting cats or dropping off we may need to work out suitable alternatives. We do not operate this service on Public Gazetted Holidays.
Can I bring my cat’s toys, scratching post, litter tray and food bowls?
Please feel free to bring any items that you consider will settle your cat. Please do not bring litter trays or food bowls as it is difficult to keep track of such items
When do I need to book?
This is always a difficult question to answer. Peak times such as school holidays, long weekends and Public Holidays are always popular times and require early booking.
What happens if I extend my holiday?
If you extend your scheduled pick up date we will do all possible to retain the space for which you have requested. It may necessitate moving your cat to a different sized enclosure. In this case your account will be adjusted.
What happens if my cat requires veterinary attention?
We would do all possible to contact you and discuss any matter relating to the ongoing care of your cat. We have a veterinarian minutes away open 7am until 11pm daily or alternatively there are 24 hour veterinarians available in Sydney.
I need peace of mind. Can I visit your cattery and when?
Yes. We encourage new clients to satisfy their needs by visiting the cattery. Please give at least one days notice for us to arrange a time with you.
Will my cat be on its own?
Yes. We do not mix cats unless from the same owner.
What vaccinations are required?
- You will need a current vaccination certificate for Feline Enteritis and Feline Respiratory Disease (F3). We need to sight the certificate upon drop off of your cat.
- All vaccinations must be completed at least two weeks prior to boarding.
- Your cat also needs to have been wormed for intestinal parasites within the last 3 months.
